Atlantis Launches Modular Steel Oil Tank Range with Imperium® Technology

After 18 months of research and development, Atlantis Tanks unveils a bold new chapter in British-made heating oil storage tanks. On Friday 1st August 2025, the company officially launches an entirely reimagined set of 9 steel bunded oil tanks.

The capacities of the 9 new oil tanks are from 900 litres to 2,700 litres which largely mirror the current range of oil tanks. Despite size similarities, significant changes and improvements have been made which will benefit heating engineers, installers and future tank owners.

Atlantis has developed the tanks based on a new modular design and production approach developed in-house. They call this Imperium® Technology for which a patent is being sought.

The launch event, hosted at Atlantis’ Suffolk factory, welcomes guests from across the sector for a first look at the new tanks. The event includes a live demonstration of the removable and interchangeable fittings plate, and an inside view of the technology that sets Imperium® apart.

Imperium® Technology represents a complete rethink of steel tank manufacturing. At its core lies a unique modular design that simplifies production, enhances tank performance and makes life easier for installers and users alike. It’s not just a new tank – it’s a new way of thinking about storage.

The new tanks are designed to do more, last longer, and arrive faster. Thanks to standardised components and a streamlined production system, Atlantis can now produce tanks with greater precision, reduced lead times and improved reliability.

Smarter, Stronger, Faster: How Imperium® sets a new standard in tank storage

Smarter by Design

Removable Fittings plate:  The Imperium® range has been purpose-built with installers in mind. A key feature is the modular top fittings plate, which can be fully removed for maintenance or upgraded to suit changing needs.

Interchangeable Fittings Plate: The same fittings plate can be swapped out to transform a tank into a completely different configuration. For example, the new oil tanks can be quickly and easily adapted to store waste oil, lube oil, diesel fuel for generators or for dispensing fuel. This remarkable versatility is achieved by swapping the interchangeable fittings plate for another. These plates are designed and made by Atlantis to be configured with a specific set of connections that suit the stored liquid and how it is used. This unlocks huge flexibility in stockholding, installation and tank repurposing for the owner.

 

Security enhancements like an optional Lockable Top Box, to futureproof design choices, every detail has been engineered for practicality and adaptability.

 

Stronger in Construction

Imperium® tanks are tougher than ever. The design allows for easier inspection, and the result is a longer-lasting tank backed by a 10-year warranty. With improved durability and more accessible maintenance, installers and end-users alike benefit from reduced downtime and greater peace of mind.

Faster to Market

Thanks to its leaner, more efficient production process, Atlantis is now able to accelerate delivery timelines. Every tank will be built at Atlantis’ UK manufacturing site in Mildenhall in Suffolk. The tanks are then delivered direct-to-site using its own fleet of HIAB-equipped trucks or via pallet delivery. No bottlenecks. Just quicker installs and more responsive service.

A Phased Launch – Starting with Oil Tanks

The first nine steel bunded oil storage tank designs built with Imperium® Technology are already in production and available to pre-order in August, with deliveries commencing 1st September 2025. These new models will initially run alongside existing steel bunded oil tanks, giving customers time to trial the new range at their own pace.

The phased rollout will continue across Atlantis’ full portfolio, eventually replacing over 170 models with new, Imperium® equipped and inspired steel tank variants..

Launch Event Highlights

The official launch ceremony, took place at 48 Leyton Avenue, Mildenhall featured a warm welcome from Managing Director Jon Mytton, followed by a presentation outlining the technology before the grand unveiling of a 900 litre pre-production example. A live demonstration of its real-world applications will follow. Notable guests include Stuart Bratt, CEO of Ultra Compact Ltd, and Margaret Major, Managing Publisher of Oil Installer magazine, both of whom helped to unveil the first tank on the production floor stage.
