BT Coalville Diesel Storage: Deploying a Custom 4200L StoraFUEL System

Partnering with Vital Power Ltd to Secure Reliable Backup Fuel Infrastructure

Atlantis Tanks recently partnered with power generation specialists Vital Power Ltd. Together, our teams delivered a high-performance fuel management solution. This project directly supports the vital BT Coalville diesel storage installation. Specifically, we supplied a custom 4200 Litre Atlantis Steel Bunded Oil/Diesel Tank from our premium StoraFUEL range. We configured this backup system to safeguard critical telecommunication infrastructure.

Telecommunication hubs require absolute power reliability to prevent network downtime. Consequently, a secure fuel reserve remains a primary engineering concern for critical national facilities. To resolve this site challenge, we collaborated with Connor Seddon and the Vital Power Ltd engineering team from Coventry. As a result, Atlantis Tanks supplied a resilient fuel storage solution. This vital asset guarantees long-term energy security and strict regulatory compliance.

Mid-Capacity Engineering Built for Critical Infrastructure

The foundation of this system relies on our specialized industrial equipment. We optimized this mid-capacity unit to balance a compact footprint with high-integrity storage requirements. You can view our full range of custom solutions on our fuel tanks product page.

Verified Specifications & Capacity Metrics:

  • Nominal Capacity: 4287 Litres

  • Brimful Capacity: 4512 Litres

  • Useable Capacity (with Overfill Prevention): 4212 Litres

  • Outer Tank Dimensions: 2530mm (L) x 1650mm (W) x 1513mm (H)

  • Inner Tank Dimensions: 1900mm (L) x 1590mm (W) x 1510mm (H)

  • Weight Profile: 814 KG (Dry Weight) / 4408 KG (Estimated Wet Weight)

True industrial credibility depends on verified structural strength. Therefore, we manufactured this tank in strict accordance with BS799 Part 5 standards. We utilized high-grade S275JR steel (BS EN 10025-2:2004) and added comprehensive internal tank bracing. Furthermore, our design complies fully with the Control of Pollution Regulations 2001, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) guidelines, and Environment Agency (EA) rules. Consequently, it provides a dependable asset for the BT Coalville diesel storage project.

Comprehensive Risk Mitigation and Fluid Control

Operating within critical infrastructure environments demands an uncompromising focus on environmental safety. To meet these stringent standards, the StoraFUEL tank features a fully bunded construction. The outer tank provides secondary containment capable of holding 110% of the total stored liquid. Thus, our design safeguards the surrounding area from sudden fuel leaks or environmental contamination.

Premium Hardware and Integration Features:

  • Advanced Enclosure: The tank features a full-size, front-mounted security cabinet. Additionally, we installed a space-saving Roller Shutter Door to optimize structural clearance and prevent fuel theft.

  • Mechanical Overfill Prevention: An aluminum-bodied 2″ Overfill Limiter protects the system from delivery accidents. This mechanical device threads directly into a 2″ BSPP socket to stop bulk fluid flow automatically.

  • Removable Drop Tube System: We integrated a specialized 1″ x 1.5-metre removable drop tube assembly. This package includes a flexible suction tube, a foot valve, a strainer, and a T-piece for priming.

  • Industrial Connections: The cabinet houses a 1″ top suction port for sludge drainage. Furthermore, it contains a specialized PN16 Flange to accommodate double-skin pipework entry safely.

Additionally, the tank incorporates a 610mm Manway with a gasketed, bolted lid. This practical addition ensures maintenance crews can access the inner tank safely during routine regulatory inspections.

Industrial Coating for Long-Term Durability

Atmospheric weathering can cause premature corrosion on exposed steel hardware. Therefore, our team prepared the tank’s exterior surfaces to an industrial ST2 standard before painting.

Specifically, a Zinfos 340 WS solvent-borne anti-corrosive system protects the raw metal. This multi-surface, self-priming coat delivers a durable, 50% gloss mid-sheen finish. We applied the coating to an exact thickness profile of 150 microns wet and 75 microns dry. For this project, we finished the tank in a distinctive Saddle Brown (BS 06 C 39) color. Consequently, the unit provides clean aesthetics alongside long-term structural defense.

Logistical Precision and On-Site Deployment

Moving a heavy industrial asset requires careful engineering design. For this reason, we equipped the unit with four heavy-duty lifting eyes for safe empty transport. Furthermore, we mounted the entire assembly onto full-width structural steel bearers. This choice ensures stable positioning during installation.

Through our specialized transport network, our logistics team delivered the full assembly pack efficiently. As a result, Vital Power Ltd completed the installation without facing project delays.
