Cheswold Hospital Infrastructure Upgrade: 8,000 Litre StoraFUEL Bunded System for Critical Healthcare Operations
Partnering to Secure Reliable On-Site Fuel Backup for Healthcare Continuity
Atlantis Tanks—through our specialist StoraFUEL brand—recently supported the critical infrastructure upgrade at Cheswold Hospital, delivering a custom 8,000-litre heavy-duty steel bunded fuel storage system complete with an engineered tank stand, low-level fill cabinet, and advanced telemetry monitoring.
This project highlights our capability to supply fully compliant, long-term bulk fuel storage solutions tailored to sensitive healthcare environments and critical commercial operations where uninterrupted power and heating are paramount.
Healthcare facilities demand dependable backup systems to maintain operational continuity without compromising site safety or environmental standards. Cheswold Hospital required a turnkey, fully compliant engineering solution to guarantee secure fuel reserves for standby emergency power generation and essential heating operations.
Precision-Engineered Fuel Tanks for Safety and Longevity
The core of the Cheswold Hospital fuel infrastructure project involved the supply of a bespoke [TAN.SPE-441] 8,000-litre steel bunded oil/diesel storage tank from our StoraFUEL range. Custom-engineered for durability, the unit integrates seamless piping provisions and overfill safeguards designed to operate reliably for decades.
Tank Overview & Key Features:
-
Dimensional Specifications: Outer tank dimensions measure L 2800mm × W 2000mm × H 2000mm; Inner tank dimensions measure L 2214mm × W 1934mm × H 1937mm (excluding bearers and fittings).
-
Capacity Profile: Brimful capacity of 8,476 litres, nominal capacity of 8,052 litres, and a useable capacity (with overfill prevention) of 8,050 litres.
-
Weight Specifications: Approximate dry weight of 1,232 kg, with a wet operating weight of approximately 8,182 kg.
-
Industrial Compliance: Fabricated in strict accordance with BS 799 Part 5 standards using high-grade steel to BS EN 10025-2:2004 S275JR, reinforced with internal structural tank bracing for long-term rigidity.
-
110% Secondary Containment: Built with an integrated outer bund providing 110% fluid capacity relative to the total liquid stored, ensuring complete compliance with UK Control of Pollution guidelines and environmental protection regulations.
-
Optimized Socket Architecture: Configured with a 610mm manway, a dedicated 2″ fill point with drip cap and chain, dual 2″ vents (tank-to-bund and bund-to-atmosphere), a 2″ dump socket, a 1″ top suction drain port (plugged), a 1″ bottom outlet with internal isolation valve and T-bar handle, a 1″ top return, four 1.5″ tank sockets, and a 1.5″ rear bund socket.
-
Elevated Support Infrastructure: Mounted on full-width structural steel support bearers and paired with a bespoke 8,000-litre steel tank stand (L 2350mm × W 2000mm × H 1000mm, 1500mm high, finished in black) for optimized site integration.
-
Integrated Safety & Handling: Fitted with heavy-duty lifting eyes for safe handling during empty positioning and an integrated earthing bolt.
Advanced Dispensing, Overfill Protection & Telemetry
To ensure maximum operational safety and precise inventory management, the system was equipped with comprehensive ancillary equipment:
-
Low-Level Fill Cabinet: A robust 900 × 900 × 450 mm enclosure housing a 2″ fill point complete with a lever ball valve, non-return valve, drip cap, and chain for secure, accessible tanker offloading.
-
Automated Overfill Protection: Equipped with a 2″ aluminum Mechanical Overfill Limiter screwed into a 2″ BSPP full socket, preventing fluid overflow and fully compatible with clean diesel, biodiesel B30, and heating oil.
-
Advanced Tank Gauging: A 230V O.L.E C2020 tank gauge kit with a 0.3m–5m probe range (10m probe length) providing ±1% accuracy. Features an IP55 weatherproof rating, backlit electronic display, continuous readout in litres and percentage bar, and 4–20mA BMS output integration.
-
High-Level & Bund Alarms: Dedicated bund and high-level probe alarm kit with a 6m cable length to provide immediate alerts against potential containment breaches.
Engineered for Long-Term Environmental Resilience
To protect the tank structure against atmospheric corrosion while providing a professional visual finish, StoraFUEL applied a rigorous multi-stage protective coating system:
-
Surface Preparation: Mechanically prepared to ST2 standards prior to coating application.
-
Anti-Corrosive System: Treated with Zinfos 340WS solvent-borne high-performance anti-corrosive primer and a multi-surface self-priming mid-sheen topcoat (50% gloss).
-
Coating Profile: Applied to a controlled thickness of 150 microns wet film / 75 microns dry film thickness.
-
Finish: Custom finished in Saddle Brown to complement the hospital site environment.
