Datum Datacentre Diesel Storage: Deploying a Custom 36,000L StoraFUEL Slab Tank

Partnering with Dieselec Thistle Generators Limited to Secure Critical Power Infrastructure

Atlantis Tanks recently partnered with power generation specialists Dieselec Thistle Generators Limited. Together, our engineering teams delivered a high-performance backup power configuration. This successful project directly supports the core Datum Datacentre diesel storage installation. Specifically, we supplied a custom 36,000 Litre Steel Bunded Structural Slab Tank from our premium StoraFUEL range. We configured this low-profile tank to safeguard mission-critical data processing workflows.

Modern datacentres require absolute power uptime. Consequently, any main grid failure requires the immediate activation of emergency standby generators. To meet this strict operational standard, we provided a specialized structural slab tank. We designed this ultra-low profile footprint to fit efficiently within tight on-site spatial restrictions.

Advanced Engineering for Datum Datacentre Diesel Storage

The foundation of this infrastructure relies on a rugged, spacesaving design. This layout allows operators to build directly on top of the tank framework, saving valuable site footprint.

Verified Specifications & Capacity Metrics:

  • Nominal Capacity: 35,980 Litres

Bespoke 36,000L structural tank installation for the Datum Datacentre diesel storage network

  • Brimful Capacity: 36,902 Litres

  • Outer Tank Dimensions: 14000mm (L) x 3800mm (W) x 780mm (H) (Total height 880mm with fittings)

  • Inner Tank Dimensions: 13700mm (L) x 3550mm (W) x 774mm (H)

  • Weight Profile: 18,000 KG (Dry Weight) / 50,000 KG (Estimated Wet Weight)

True industrial credibility depends on verified structural strength. Therefore, we manufactured the primary tank using high-grade steel to meet strict standards. Furthermore, we integrated internal universal beams and robust internal tank bracing. This heavy-duty engineering system effortlessly bears immense loads.

Advanced Fuel Management and BMS Integration

Maintaining absolute fuel control remains vital for automated facilities. Therefore, the system incorporates an O.L.E C2020 Tank Gauge Kit. This electronic unit delivers an accurate, continuous volume readout in litres and percentage bars. Additionally, it features high and low-level alarms to prevent leakage risks. The gauge includes a 4-20mA output to link directly into the central building management system (BMS).

Furthermore, we installed a 230V 50LPM Duplex Pump & Control Panel assembly. This smart package operates two centrifugal pumps to ensure full hardware redundancy. The control panel communicates smoothly with the client’s generator day tank float switches. As a result, the system automates critical fuel transfers while constantly monitoring for compartment floor leaks.

Fuel Polishing for Guaranteed Power Quality

Stored diesel degrades naturally over time. Consequently, we integrated a high-performance 230V 100LPM Fuel Polisher. This system utilizes a two-stage filtration process to maintain fuel cleanliness. Specifically, it removes particulates and separates moisture to achieve strict ISO 4406 cleanliness standards.

The polisher filters out fine particulates via a 10-micron and 3-micron duplex filter system. This treatment keeps water content safely under 200ppm. Thus, it guarantees pristine fuel quality for the emergency backup grid.

Environmental Protection and Specialized Delivery

Environmental safety remains a foundational priority. For this reason, the outer tank forms a fully compliant bund. This secondary containme

nt layer holds 110% of the total stored liquid. Additionally, our manufacturing team applied a C3-grade protective paint system over an ST2 surface preparation. We finished the tank shell in standard Black RAL 9005 for long-term weather defense.

Finally, our specialized transport network managed the transit operations seamlessly. We loaded both large tanks onto a single vehicle and escorted the shipment directly to the Manchester logistics point. We back this comprehensive technical design with our standard 10-year tank warranty. This long-term investment gives the datacentre lasting reliability and true operational continuity.
