RVI Hospital Newcastle Diesel Storage: Deploying a 66,500L StoraFUEL Infrastructure Solution

Partnering with Enrogen Limited to Secure Critical Healthcare Backup Power

Atlantis Tanks recently partnered with power generation specialists Enrogen Limited to deliver a high-performance RVI Hospital diesel storage system. Specifically, we supplied a massive 66,500 Litre Steel Bunded Oil/Diesel Tank alongside a companion 3,100 Litre Single Skin Tank from our premium StoraFUEL range. We configured this dual-tank asset to protect uninterrupted, life-saving hospital operations.

Healthcare facilities demand absolute power security to maintain critical medical environments. Consequently, a dependable backup fuel supply remains a primary engineering priority for regional trauma centers. To resolve this complex site requirement, we collaborated with Anna Lee and the Enrogen Limited team based in York. As a result, Atlantis Tanks delivered a resilient, code-compliant storage configuration. This system guarantees long-term energy continuity and strict environmental safety.

Secure RVI Hospital Diesel Storage Infrastructure

The foundation of this infrastructure relies on our heavy-duty industrial equipment. We engineered this large-scale unit to manage bulk fuel reserves under high-demand emergency scenarios. Verified Specifications & Capacity Metrics:

  • Nominal Capacity: 68,276 Litres

  • Brimful Capacity: 70,027 Litres

  • Useable Capacity (with Overfill Prevention): 66,504 Litres

  • Outer Tank Dimensions: 9300mm (L) x 3000mm (W) x 3000mm (H) (including cabinet)

  • Inner Tank Dimensions: 8200mm (L) x 2880mm (W) x 2994mm (H)

  • Weight Profile: 10,971 KG (Dry Weight) / 66,958 KG (Estimated Wet Weight)

True industrial credibility requires verified manufacturing standards. Therefore, we manufactured this primary tank in strict accordance with BS799 Part 5 standards. We utilized high-grade S275JR steel and added comprehensive internal tank bracing. To maintain complete legal compliance, our designs follow strict UK Government oil storage regulations. Consequently, the unit provides a robust foundation for the main facility network.

Advanced Environmental Safety and Fluid Management

Operating within a major hospital environment requires an uncompromising focus on risk mitigation. To satisfy environmental safety rules, the primary StoraFUEL unit features a fully bunded design. The outer tank provides secondary containment capable of holding 110% of the total stored liquid. Thus, our design prevents environmental contamination.

Premium Hardware and Integration Features:

  • Secure Access: A full-size, 650mm deep front-mounted security cabinet houses the critical controls. Additionally, we installed a heavy-duty Roller Shutter Door to optimize space.

  • Mechanical Overfill Prevention: An aluminum-bodied 2″ Overfill Limiter safeguards the system. This device threads directly into a 2″ BSPP socket to stop bulk fuel flow automatically during deliveries.

  • Custom Drop Tube Integration: We integrated a specialized 1.5″ x 2.5-metre removable drop tube assembly. This package features a foot valve, a strainer, and dedicated fluid unions to facilitate seamless equipment suction.

  • Fuel Conditioning Ports: The cabinet features dedicated top feed and return connections for fuel polishers. This inclusion guarantees long-term fuel stability for the emergency generator network.

Additionally, the tank incorporates a 610mm Manway with a gasketed, bolted lid. This practical addition ensures maintenance crews can access the inner tank safely during routine regulatory inspections.

Integrated Dual-Tank Architecture

To supplement the primary storage system, the project incorporated a secondary 3,100 Litre Steel Single Skin Tank. This specialized low-profile tank features nominal dimensions of 3200mm (L) x 3000mm (W) x 350mm (H). Specifically, we designed this unit to function as an integrated base or intermediate feed asset within the plant room.

Furthermore, we mounted both tanks onto full-width structural steel bearers and equipped them with heavy-duty lifting eyes. This engineering preparation facilitates safe positioning during installation.

Industrial Surface Protection for Site Longevity

Atmospheric weathering can compromise exposed steel structures over time. Therefore, our manufacturing team prepared all primary steel surfaces to an industrial ST2 standard before coating.

Specifically, we protected the main bunded unit using a Zinfos 340WS solvent-borne anti-corrosive system. This self-priming coating provides a durable, 50% gloss mid-sheen finish. We applied it to a precise thickness profile of 150 microns wet and 75 microns dry. For this project, we finished the outer shell in a professional Saddle Brown (BS 06 C 39) color. As a result, the installation delivers excellent structural protection alongside a clean aesthetic finish.

Logistical Precision and On-Site Deployment

Through our integrated transport network, we delivered the complete tank assembly package efficiently. Consequently, Enrogen Limited completed the facility integration on schedule.
