Atlantis Tanks recently partnered with equipment and power specialists MHM Group. Together, our engineering teams delivered a high-performance emergency response backup fuel solution. This project directly secures vital Devon & Cornwall Police diesel storage infrastructure. Specifically, we supplied a custom 7500 Litre Steel Bunded Oil/Diesel Tank from our premium StoraFUEL range. We engineered this high-integrity unit to safeguard emergency power reliability across police operational sites.

Engineering the Devon & Cornwall Police Diesel Storage Tank

The backbone of this installation relies on a robust, high-capacity structural design engineered specifically to withstand heavy industrial utility while optimizing footprint efficiency.

• Structural Steel Grade: High-grade S275JR steel to BS EN 10025-2:2004 standard with internal tank bracing

• Manufacturing Standard: BS799 Part 5 compliant

• Containment & Protection: 110% secondary containment bund to prevent environmental spills

• Surface Finish: Zinfos 340WS solvent-borne anti-corrosive coating (Holly Bush Green 14 C 39; 150-micron wet / 75-micron dry film thickness)

Advanced Level Monitoring and Safety Automation

Operating a critical blue-light facility requires continuous monitoring and immediate hazard response capabilities. Therefore, the StoraFUEL tank incorporates an advanced 230V O.L.E C2020 Electronic Tank Gauge Kit covering ranges from 0.3m to 3m with integrated high- and low-level alarms.

Furthermore, dedicated bund and high-level probes connect directly to the main alarm kit. To prevent environmental hazards during maintenance cycles, we also integrated a specialized single-fuel tank alarm probe (5m length) engineered specifically for leak detection within the fuel polishing circuit.

Fuel Conditioning and Precision Hardware Architecture

Standby power fuel reserves naturally degrade over long periods of non-use. To combat microbial contamination and moisture buildup, we integrated an advanced Fuel Recirculation Unit capable of continuous fuel conditioning for tanks up to 40,000 litres.

Additionally, the hardware layout incorporates essential security and operational design choices:

• Security Cabinet: Front-mounted enclosure featuring a space-saving steel roller shutter door for fast access during maintenance.

• Delivery & Venting Architecture: 2″ fill point with lever ball valve, non-return valve, dedicated drip tray, plus dual 2″ vents for both the inner tank and secondary bund.

• Access & Valve Hardware: 610mm manway access hatch alongside top-access covers with T-bar handles housing dual 1″ bottom outlets with internal isolation valves.

• Emergency Response Provisions: Pre-serviced powder fire extinguisher and an integrated 15-litre spill kit stored directly within the unit for rapid emergency response.
