The Challenge

Installation and maintenance company West Fuel Systems required a 10,000-litre steel bunded diesel storage tank to provide a static fuelling station for the operation of an 82-ton tamping machine (as pictured below), used by Nexus Tyne and Wear across the Metro system to ensure track geometry levels and alignment are maintained in accordance with UK rail industry standards.

While a standard 10,000-litre steel bunded tank was suitable for this application, additional bespoke equipment was necessary to meet the customer’s requirements.

Access to the installation site was also narrow and had a height clearance of 3.0 metres, which would be too low for conventional delivery on a standard rigid lorry.

The Solution

Atlantis Tanks manufacture fuel storage tanks and fuelling systems for a wide range of locations, and this was no exception.

Delivery to the site was an unusual challenge, but this was resolved by using a low-loader to reduce the overall height of vehicle and load, and delivery and installation was carried out without a hitch.
