YorPower Infrastructure Upgrade: 32,200 Litre StoraFUEL Bunded System for Critical Power Operation
Partnering to Secure High-Capacity On-Site Fuel Reserves for Standby Power Generation
Atlantis Tanks—through our specialist StoraFUEL brand—recently collaborated with leading generator manufacturer YorPower Ltd to design, fabricate, and deliver a high-capacity diesel storage and fuel management system.

Centered around a bespoke 32,200-litre steel bunded fuel tank, this project highlights our commitment to engineering complete, compliant, and automated fuel backup infrastructure for major commercial power installations.
When managing mission-critical standby power generation systems, fuel integrity, containment compliance, and automated fuel transfer are paramount. YorPower required an end-to-end engineered fuel storage solution equipped with active fuel polishing, automated duplex pumping, and full Building Management System (BMS) telemetry integration.
Precision-Engineered Fuel Storage Built to BS 799 Part 5 Standards
At the core of the installation is the 32,200-litre steel bunded oil/diesel storage tank. Fabricated using high-grade structural steel and reinforced with internal tank bracing, this system is engineered to provide decades of structural rigidity and leak-free reliability under demanding operational conditions.
To accommodate specialized auxiliary day-tank configurations, the project also incorporated a complementary 4,000-litre steel bunded oil/diesel tank, providing multi-tier storage flexibility across the facility.

-
Integrated Handling & Mounting: Structural full-width support bearers, earthing bolt, and four heavy-duty lifting eyes for safe crane positioning when empty.
Automated Fuel Transfer & Active Fuel Polishing
To guarantee that generator fuel remains pristine and seamlessly transferred during critical power cuts, the installation includes specialized tank-mounted pumping and fuel conditioning systems:
1. Duplex Fuel Transfer System
-
High-Flow Transfer: 230V 50 LPM duplex centrifugal pump system mounted directly inside the weather-protected cabinet compartment.
-
Automated Control Panel: Alternating 240V pump set control panel with Hand/Auto modes, visual/audible alarms, and complete BMS integration (Pump 1/2 Tripped, Power Failure, Common Alarm).
-
Seamless Transfer: Configured to interface directly with client generator day tank and belly tank float switches for automated fuel supply.
2. Active Fuel Polishing System
-
Fuel Quality Maintenance: 230V 50 LPM system engineered to maintain stored diesel to the strict ISO 4406:2017 cleanliness standard.
-
2-Stage Filtration: Incorporates a 10-micron particulate/water retention filter and a 3-micron absolute particulate filter with visual pop-up blockage indicators.
-
Automated Scheduling: 7-day multi-function timer for programmed filtration cycles, self-priming liquid ring pump, and direct BMS output connections.
Advanced Telemetry, Overfill Protection & Electrical Integration
To ensure maximum operational security and simple inventory tracking, the complete assembly is paired with precision monitoring instruments:
-
Automated Overfill Limiter: 2″ aluminium mechanical overfill prevention valve screwed into a 2″ BSPP full socket, compatible with standard diesel, biodiesel B30, and heating oils.
-
Digital Tank Telemetry: 230V O.L.E C2020 digital tank gauge kit with 10m probe length providing ±1% accuracy. IP55 weatherproof rated with a backlit display readout in litres and percentage bar, complete with 4–20mA output for remote BMS monitoring.
-
Bund & High-Level Alarms: Independent bund and high-level probe alarm kits providing immediate alerts against fluid accumulation or potential overfills.
-
4-Position Float Switch: Brass and polypropylene 4-switch Rochester float array for accurate liquid level signaling.
High-Performance Coating & Certified Turnkey Delivery
To withstand harsh external environments while maintaining an executive industrial appearance, the outer tank surfaces underwent a high-durability coating process:
-
Surface Preparation: Mechanically cleaned to ST2 standards prior to paint application.
-
Protective Coating: Coated with Zinfos 340 WS solvent-borne high-performance anti-corrosive primer and finished with a multi-surface self-priming mid-sheen topcoat (50% gloss).
-
Coating Profile: Applied to a controlled thickness of 150 microns wet film / 75 microns dry film thickness.
-
Finish: Custom finished in RAL 7024 Graphite Grey.
Factory Assembly & On-Site Logistics
StoraFUEL provided complete Full Mechanical Installation and Certified Electrical Installation compliant with 18th Edition standards. This included pre-mounted Unistrut fixings, pressure testing, factory commissioning certification, internal LED lighting strips, Hager DB boards, and internal trunking.
Final delivery was orchestrated directly to the Leeds site via specialized HIAB Crane Truck Delivery, enabling safe offloading and immediate positioning onto prepared footings.
