PuraTank – The Story so Far

It seems like a lifetime ago now, but back in April 2019 we purchased Freerain, a manufacturer of water storage tanks for domestic and smaller commerical purposes.

Yes, the pandemic got completely in the way, but we stuck to our plan for the company, which became a major part of our sub-brand, PuraTank.

We can’t believe that 30 months have passed since Freerain became a major part of our family business. We set ourselves some challenging goals to meet and, although it’s true the pandemic did nothing to make achieving those goals easier, we thought an update on our progress was long overdue.

We put some questions to Jon Mytton, Managing Director of Atlantis Tanks, to find out what’s happened since April 2019 for PuraTank. Here’s what he had to say:

Q: It’s been a tricky time due to Covid, have you made any changes to the manufacturing process and the moulds used? What’s different now since the acquisition?

A: It certainly has been challenging, although thankfully Covid hasn’t really affected the manufacturing process much. But there have been plenty of staffing challenges due to isolation and the lockdowns. The moulds have had work done to them to improve the design and moulding process, special equipment has also been introduced to improve the finished quality of the tanks, meaning a better result for all concerned.

Q: What has been the customer feedback?

A: Very positive! Customers very much like the low profile design – shallow dig requirements mean fewer excavations, less cost and less waste. The tanks’ design is unique and very robust. Of course, customers also love our unique service including deliveries on our own transport by our own happy and friendly drivers!

Q: Has public awareness of climate change affected interest in rainwater harvesting?

A: Yes, it certainly has. Interest has also grown due to government requirements for SUDS (Sustainable Drainage Solutions) in new developments.

Rainwater harvesting offers a very economical and sustainable solution to many of the SUDS requirements. It is estimated that each human uses on average around 150 litres of water per day. Nearly half of this is used for flushing toilets! A lot of expense and time goes into supplying us with clean, drinking water for us to flush around 50 – 75 litres per person down the toilet each day! It really doesn’t make much sense! Using rainwater for flushing toilets and washing machines, garden irrigation as well as many other things massively helps the environment. This is due to it saving mains water for drinking and potable use and not wasting the energy used in getting this safe water to our taps and other systems. It also helps lower demand on our reservoirs and waterways, therefore reducing the negative environmental impact which helps ecosystems to thrive.

Q: Do you have plans to improve the waste/septic side of this sub-brand, if so what are they?

A: Yes, we are investing in experienced staff and developing products to bring to the market, both in water and waste handling. Watch this space!

Q: Any ideas about your PuraTank plans for the next couple of years?

A: Keep growing, keep improving, keep on serving our loyal customers!

If you’d like to find out more about our range of water storage tanks, rainwater harvesting equipment and waste tanks, give us a call or drop us an email. This is an exciting area and it’s not just a product to us, it’s a sustainable way to save water and reduce energy consumption. That’s becoming increasingly essential to help improve our environment and everything in it including us!
