Rolls Royce Emergency Fuel Infrastructure: Deploying a Custom 4500L StoraFUEL System

Partnering with BW M&E Limited to Secure Critical Operations

Atlantis Tanks recently collaborated with specialist contractor BW M&E Limited to deliver a high-capacity, robust fuel storage solution for a high-profile Rolls Royce facility.

Specifically, we engineered and supplied a custom 4500 Litre Steel Bunded Diesel/Oil Tank from our StoraFUEL range, designed to function as a dependable bulk storage unit for critical operations.

Industrial manufacturing and aerospace facilities require continuous, fail-safe power resilience to maintain essential services during power outages. Atlantis Tanks manufactured a tailored, high-performance steel tank that meets the strict technical demands of the site in Ripley.

Engineering Specifications: 4500L StoraFUEL System

The unit was custom-engineered to provide maximum structural integrity while meeting strict UK environmental mandates and manufacturing standards.

  • Capacity Metrics: 4333 Litres Nominal (4561 Litres Brimful).

  • Outer Dimensions: 2440mm (L) x 1220mm (W) x 1830mm (H).

  • Structural Material: High-grade steel to BS EN 10025-2:2004 S275JR standards, made in accordance with BS799pt5 with internal tank bracing for maximum structural rigidity.

  • Secondary Containment: Outer tank forms the required bund, providing a capacity for 110% of the total liquid being stored.

  • High-Performance Coating: ST2 surface preparation followed by a Zinfos 340WS solvent-borne high-performance anti-corrosive one-coat system. Finished in a multi-surface self-priming mid-sheen topcoat (50% gloss) in BS 14 C 39 : Holly Bush Green. Applied to give a wet film thickness of 150 microns and a dry film thickness of 75 microns.

  • Handling & Support: Mounted on full-length bearers and equipped with lifting eyes for safe transport and positioning when empty.

Technical Socket Architecture and Instrumentation

High-capacity storage tanks require precise piping integration to seamlessly regulate fuel transfer. The unit incorporates a custom porting setup:

  • Fill Point: 2″ fill point complete with drip cap & chain.

  • Suction Line: 1″ top suction complete with an internal standpipe located at the rear top of the tank.

  • Dual Venting System: 2″ tank to bund vent and 2″ bund to atmosphere vent, both located at the rear top section.

  • Auxiliary Porting: 1x 1.5″ tank socket (front top), 1x 2″ tank socket (rear top), 1x 1.5″ bund socket (rear top), and 1x 1″ bottom outlet.

  • Instrumentation: Integrated 4′ Clock Face Gauge for reliable, at-a-glance volume monitoring.

Turnkey Logistics and Standards Compliance

To streamline the installation process for BW M&E Limited and Rolls Royce, Atlantis Tanks coordinated a Large Tank Delivery utilizing a specialized 3rd party vehicle. Because of the scale of the 4500L system, this was delivered without offload, allowing the customer to arrange dedicated on-site offloading to place the asset precisely where required.

Backed by our standard 10-year tank warranty, this installation underscores our ability to deliver technical fuel storage solutions tailored to the stringent demands of top-tier commercial and aerospace infrastructure projects.
