Protective Finish
Double coating of Zinfos: Your 1050 litre waste oil tank is painted with 2 coats of our specially formulated anti-rust coating system designed to give maximum protection – Zinfos 340 WS (150μm WFT / 75μm DFT). If you would like to purchase this paint separately, please click here. We recommend painting your steel tank once a year to achieve the maximum lifespan.
Whilst our Zinfos paint is extremely robust, it is recommended that an alternative paint is used if the tank is to be located in a marine environment, please speak to our sales team for more info.
Tank Colour: Our standard paint colour finish is Black. A small tin of “touch-up” paint is included with your new tank for applying when scratches might occur during the installation process.
The black colour is an industry convention for waste oil tanks. However, other finishes are available upon request and are not currently forbidden by law. If you want a different colour, choose one by referring to the RAL colour chart (this could add the lead time of up to 1 week).

Compliance & Materials
This bunded steel waste oil tank is designed and manufactured in the UK to meet the latest regulations governing waste oil storage:
- BS 799 pt.5 standards – ensures steel oil storage tanks are built to consistent, recognised quality.
- Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001 and equivalent devolved regimes – secondary containment and robust bunding for spill prevention.
- Hazardous Waste (England & Wales) Regulations 2005 – compliant for safe collection and storage of waste oils.
- Environmental Protection Act 1990 (Duty of Care) – secure bunding, leak-proof steel construction and clear labelling reduce the risk of environmental harm.
- Manufactured from S275 JR structural steel (BS EN 10025-2:2004) – guaranteeing strength and long service life.
This compliance framework ensures our 1050 litre waste oil tank offers a sound, environmentally responsible solution for collecting and storing waste oils in commercial and industrial settings.
Frequently Asked Questions | 1050 Litre Steel Bunded Waste Oil Tank
Why doesn’t this waste oil tank have an overfill prevention valve (OPV)?
Overfill prevention valves are used on heating oil tanks that are filled under pressure from a delivery hose. A waste oil tank is filled manually via the integral waste oil inlet and strainer, using trays or drainers of collected oil. Because there is no sealed hose connection, an OPV cannot function in this application. The waste oil inlet design provides safe, open filling for waste oil without the risk of back pressure.
Do I need a bunded tank for waste oil?
Yes. UK regulations require bunding for all commercial waste oil storage to prevent leaks or spills from contaminating the environment. The TAN.WOI-1152 features an integral steel bund that provides compliant secondary containment, meeting the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001 and devolved equivalents.
What liquids can I store in a waste oil tank?
The TAN.WOI-1152 is designed for used engine oils, lubricants, transmission fluids and similar waste oils. It can also hold diesel, heating oil, HVO and other compatible fuels (always check with us first). Some sites also use waste oil tanks for the safe collection of used cooking oil before recycling. Whatever the liquid, it is essential to clearly label the tank and keep different waste streams separated.
What colour should a waste oil tank be?
There is no legal requirement for waste oil tanks to be a specific colour. However, black is the industry convention for steel waste oil tanks, as it helps distinguish them from heating oil (often green) or lube oil (often grey) tanks. The TAN.WOI-1152 is supplied in black as standard, but alternative finishes are available on request.
