Rainwater Harvesting: Accessible Water All Year Round

Last summer’s record-breaking heatwave caused disruption up and down the nation. Reservoir levels fell to record lows, resulting in water shortages and hosepipe bans in various regions.

And while many of us have been enjoying the warm weather so far, others have been subject to hosepipe bans again this summer.

Where Are There Hosepipe Bans?

Kent and Sussex are the latest counties to be issued with a hosepipe ban to decrease the water demand and replenish supplies in areas of the region that need it most. They join Cornwall and parts of Devon, where a ban has been in place since August 2022.

So what steps can you take to avoid being left high and dry?

What Is Rainwater Harvesting?

A hosepipe ban in the summer isn’t ideal, but installing a rainwater harvesting system is a cost-effective and efficient solution. Water tanks can be installed above or below ground so you can access water all year round… especially in those hotter months.

Our PuraTANK rainwater harvesting storage tanks are underground tanks, also known as ‘shallow dig’ tanks. The rainwater is collected from your roof gutters and transported to the underground tank, where it is stored safely from contamination.

What Can Rainwater Be Used For?

Untreated rainwater (also known as non-potable) is not suitable for drinking, but it does have plenty of other uses, including garden irrigation, hosepipes, jet washes, and for washing cars, windows and clothes.
