Description
2400 Litre Steel Bunded Day Service Tank | TAN.DSS-2400
Our 2400 litre steel bunded day service tank is designed to safely supply diesel (or other fuel oil) to generator systems. This medium compact day service tank is also known as a generator day tank. The day tank is typically installed close to a power generator to ensure a reliable and accessible supply of fuel.
Purpose of Day Service Tanks
Automated – Our day service tanks play a key role in automated generator fuel setups. They can top up with fuel themselves by transferring diesel fuel from larger generator bulk tanks on-demand. They do this automatically with an optional pump, a day tank controller and float switches. In this way, your generator container set is supplied with clean fuel without manual intervention.
Manual – The tank can also be used as a stand-alone generator day tank that is refilled manually from a larger bulk storage tank.
Built ready to serve – Our 2400 litre day service tank comes with all the standard, built-in fittings required to integrate with your generator fuel system. These include fill points, vents, feed/return lines, and an outlet with an internal isolation valve.
Applications
- Backup power systems: Ideal for day tank duty in standby generator setups for hospitals, data centres, and commercial buildings.
- Remote installations: Reliable fuel supply for off-grid sites or difficult-to-access locations where daily generator operation is needed.
- Emergency services: Ensures critical infrastructure (emergency response centres, telecom hubs, etc.) have a constant ready fuel source for power generators.
- Industrial operations: Provides on-site diesel storage to feed generators or equipment in factories and processing facilities where uninterrupted power is vital.

Standard Features
- Regulatory Compliance: Manufactured to high standards – BS799 Part 5 for diesel tanks, including internal bracing for structural integrity. The outer tank forms a bund with 110% of the inner tank’s volume, exceeding minimum requirements for environmental spill containment.
- A 10-year warranty is provided (subject to maintenance as per the warranty guidelines), reflecting the tank’s high-quality build and compliance.
- Material Construction: High-grade construction steel plate (S275JR) for both inner and outer tanks, ensuring durability and longevity. All seams are fully welded and pressure-tested. The robust steel design makes it suitable for industrial and commercial applications, as well as backup power systems in critical facilities.
- Standard Tank Connections: Each day service tank comes with all necessary fittings pre-installed (exact connection configurations are as per tank drawings). Standard connections include:
- Manway: 610 mm access manway for inspection and maintenance of the inner tank.
- Fill Point: 2″ fill point (top fill) with a secure cap and chain to prevent debris ingress, complete with a drip cap to catch any spills during filling.
- Ventilation: 2″ tank-to-bund vent and 2″ bund-to-atmosphere vent, ensuring proper ventilation of both the inner tank and the bund (outer tank) space. These vents prevent pressure build-up and allow the bund to safely vent fumes.
- Generator Supply/Return: 1″ feed and return connections on the top of the tank to connect fuel supply and return lines to your generator set. This allows the generator’s fuel circulation system to draw from the day tank and send unused fuel back into it.
- Drain/Outlet: 1″ bottom outlet fitted with an internal isolation valve (with T-bar handle) for feeding an external fuel line or for drainage. There is also a 1″ top-mounted suction drain port (supplied plugged) which can be used for priming or extracting fuel from the top of the tank if needed.
- Additional Sockets: Five (5) × 1.5″ BSP sockets on the tank (for installing ancillary equipment such as gauges, alarms, or additional pumps) and one (1) × 1.5″ BSP socket on the bund (typically used for an overflow alarm sensor or bund leak detector). This provides flexibility for various fittings or future upgrades.
- Mounting & Handling: The tank is mounted on full-length steel bearers (skids) which distribute weight evenly and allow easy forklift/pallet truck handling. Integral lifting eyes are provided on the top, enabling safe craning or lifting of the tank when empty.
- Protective Coating (Tank Finish): Each steel tank undergoes surface preparation to ST2 standard, removing rust/scale to ensure proper paint adhesion. We apply a Zinfos 340 WS high-performance anti-corrosive coating – a one-coat, self-priming system with a mid-sheen finish (~50% gloss). This industrial-grade paint is applied to achieve ~150 μm wet film thickness (approx. 75 μm dry film), forming a durable protective layer against corrosion levels consistent with industrial and urban locations.
- Colour Customisation: Tank colour is customisable to your preference. Our standard finish is primer grey or saddle brown (depending on stock), but you can specify any RAL colour code at the time of order (common choices include greens or greys to match site aesthetics). This allows the day tank to blend with existing equipment or comply with site colour standards. Select your preferred tank colour by referring to the RAL colour chart
Optional Accessories
To complement this TAN.DSS-2400 day service tank, we offer a range of optional accessories and equipment (sold separately) to enhance its functionality and ease of use:
- 500 mm Tank Stand: A heavy-duty steel stand that elevates the day tank (~0.5 m high), useful for gravity-feeding applications or where a higher outlet position is required. The stand is designed to fit the footprint of the 2400 litre day service tank securely and is powder-coated for durability.
- Overfill Prevention Valve (2″): A mechanical overfill prevention valve can be installed in the fill line to automatically shut off incoming flow when the tank reaches ~90% capacity. This safety device helps prevent overfilling during refuelling (highly recommended if the tank is filled via pump or remote fill point).
- O.L.E. (230v) C2020 Tank Gauge Kit c/w H/L Alarms: This digital tank gauge provide a continuous readout of the tank’s content level and can sound an alarm or alert a Building Management System (BMS) if the tank’s fuel levels get too low or if the bund contains liquid (Indicating a leak).
- Mirror Gauge for C2020 O.L.E. Tank Gauge
- O.L.E. (230v) T5020 Tank Gauge Kit 0.3m-3m c/w alarm: Higher accuracy gauge +/- 0.25%
- Bund or High Level Probe for O.L.E Alarm Kits: A bund alarm probe can also be added to detect any fuel seepage in the outer bund.
- O.L.E. T4000 Day Tank Controller: Utilised for the automatic refilling from a separate bulk fuel tank. The controller works with float switches or level sensors inside the day tank. These trigger a transfer pump to operate when fuel is low and stop it when the tank is full. It provides fail-safe features and alarms (for example, detecting if a pump fails or if an overflow condition is imminent), ensuring the day tank is replenished safely and reliably without manual checks.
- 4 Position Rochester Float Switch (Generic): Works in tandem with the Day Tank Controller.
- 230V 50LPM Duplex Pump & Control Panel (CABINET MOUNT): Includes 2 x Centrifugal Pumps, up to 50lpm flow, pump inlet strainer, manual isolation valves, non-return valves & bypass valve
- Manual Semi Rotary Hand Pump: Includes a water & particulate filter, 4m Hose and manual nozzle
- 230V 50LPM Fuel Polisher & Control Panel (CABINET MOUNT): Designed to maintain fuel at the clean oil standard ISO 4406:2017 – 18/16/13 particle count / less than 200ppm water content. 2 stage filtration.
- Fill Point Cabinet (with Window) – 2″ Single Top Fill: Lockable painted sturdy steel cabinet with partial glass front to allow viewing of alarms/gauges. Filling point is secured behind door out of sight & reach.
- Fill Point Cabinet (without Window)- 2″ Single Top Fill: Steel powder coated cabinet with robust hinged door and lockable handles.
